Visconti Castle of Pavia

From April 19 to July 28, 2019, the Visconti Castle of Pavia will host the exhibition The hidden life of things; De Chirico, De Pisis, Carrà.

Curated by Antonio D'Amico, with the scientific collaboration of Elena Pontiggia and Maria Silvia Proni, the exhibition will offer a fascinating journey in which a group of superb Neapolitan still lifes of the seventeenth century, executed with a meticulous adherence to reality by Caravaggesque artists (Giovanni Battista Ruoppolo, Paolo Porpora, Giovanni Battista and Giuseppe Recco), dialogues with important works by Filippo de Pisis, with a rare nucleus of Vite silenti by Giorgio de Chirico and with some meditative still lifes by Carlo Carrà, painters who, in the twentieth century, gave rise to Metaphysics, attributing a symbolic value to the objects portrayed and thus allowing the hidden life of things to emerge.

Realized thanks to the will of the municipal administration led by Massimo Depaoli with Giacomo Galazzo as Councillor for Culture, the exhibition - which consists of 60 works coming from prestigious Italian and foreign private collections - also allows to develop a suggestive and, in some ways, unexpected dialogue with the spaces of the fourteenth-century castle that hosts it and, from here, with the whole city.
