The painting, dating from 1918–1919, was part of a screen created by Giacomo Balla for his home on Via Paisiello. In this context, the artist carried out an early experiment in Futurist “total art,” creating an environment dominated by Futurist shapes and colors that would have a significant impact on the European avant-garde.

This work embodied the theoretical principles set out in the Manifesto of the Futurist Reconstruction of the Universe, published in 1915, in which art abandoned the traditional form of painting to expand into everyday life. The scene depicts a Futurist landscape, where green tree wings are crossed by orange and yellow rays of sunlight.
