Scenes of Everyday Life, The Landscape and Work

Villa Monastero, Varenna
There is the work of man. There is industriousness and responsibility, fatigue and humility. There is the awareness of how work is, despite the difficulties, an essential component of life. And then there is the Lombardy landscape, a constant backdrop to representations that all, or almost all, have a mostly naturalistic approach, still far from social denunciation but still a mirror of an agricultural and pastoral world. Work and Landscape, or better: Landscape and Work, Scenes of Daily Life.
This exhibition, at Villa Monastero until September 3rd, includes sixty paintings by artists from Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto created over a period of time that goes from the mid-nineteenth century to the early twentieth century. This selection of paintings from private collections celebrates the region of Lombardy and is perfectly framed by this villa on Lake Lario.
