The Spectacle of Modernity, Giovanni Boldini

San Domenico Museums, Forlì
Filippo de Pisis exclaimed: "C'est un classique!"
This is the recognition given to Giovanni Boldini (Ferrara 1842 - Paris 1931), ever since the first posthumous exhibition held in Paris a few months after his passing. "The classic of a genre of painting" reiterated De Pisis on that same occasion.
The Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì Foundation and the San Domenico Museums in Forlì continue to explore, through new studies and the rediscovery of little-known works, the figurative culture between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
They propose, for this 2015 exhibition season, an in-depth review of the story of Giovanni Boldini, certainly the greatest and most prolific of the Italian artists living in 19th century Paris. It is in this ideal space and relationship between Forlì and Paris that our new initiative takes place
